For those wanting additional power, the ST, King Ranch, and Platinum models have standard 3-liter V6 turbocharged 400-hp engines. A 10-speed automatic transmission is standard across the board. The Explorer comes with rear-wheel-drive with an AWD option. This powerful SUV can tow a payload of up to 5,600 pounds.
Exterior and Interior Design
The Explorer is iconically styled with its imposing athletic stance for the streets of Brooklyn. The bold appearance is complete with 18-inch all-terrain tires. The Timberline model has steel front and rear skid plates, off-road-tuned front struts, and rear shocks. Available on the Platinum model are adaptive LED headlamps for improved visibility.
For the most part, the interior cabin of the Explorer lineup is comfortable and functional. The three rows of seats are easily adaptable to configure the car for up to 7 people or for maximum cargo space. A twin-panel moonroof is optional. The premium models are available with leather seats.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The Explorer comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Wi-Fi hotspot. The upper-tired Explorers offer an optional 10.1-inch vertically oriented screen. Each trim level is available with voice-activated navigation and rear-seat entertainment systems. A Bang & Olufsen 12-speaker stereo is standard except in the base model.

The new Ford Explorers are equipped with standard driver-assistance technology. This safety suite includes forward-collision warning with automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist.
